HMOs make doctors sign contracts which preclude the doctor from discussing newer and better procedures with patients. Why? Money, plain and simple. Now, in this great country, there’s nothing wrong with making money. But at the expense of people’s lives??

It doesn’t matter if this newer/better procedure would increase the life expectancy of the patient; because it’s NEW it’s more expensive. It’s every corporation’s task to reduce costs and HMOs are no exception.

Also, the fact that it’s ‘new’ doesn’t mean it’s unsafe or unproven- quite the opposite. HMOs make doctors sign this contract to increase profits, not to protect the patient.

Here’s one more little secret…

HMOs allocate a certain budget per patient to each doctor on their network. What the doctor doesn’t spend from this budget, he/she keeps!
